Island Peak Expedition – 20 Days Adventure to the Himalayas

Experience an unforgettable 20-day expedition to Island Peak (6,189m) — a perfect blend of high-altitude trekking, stunning Himalayan views, Sherpa culture, and ultimate climbing adventure.

Tour Plan

Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, our representative will greet you and transfer you to your hotel. After check-in, you can relax or explore the vibrant Thamel area. In the evening, we’ll hold a short briefing about the trip.

Today is set aside for last-minute preparations, equipment checks, and permit collection. You can also explore Kathmandu’s cultural heritage sites like Swayambhunath or Pashupatinath if time permits.

Early morning flight to Lukla offers breathtaking mountain views. After landing, we begin our trek through beautiful Sherpa villages and pine forests to reach Phakding along the Dudh Koshi River.

We follow the river trail, cross suspension bridges, and pass through Monjo, entering Sagarmatha National Park. The final stretch is a steep climb to the bustling Sherpa town of Namche Bazaar — the gateway to Everest.

We hike up to the Everest View Hotel (around 3880m) to see Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and other peaks. We return to Namche for lunch and rest, helping our bodies acclimatize to the altitude.

We climb out of Namche and follow the trail northward through rhododendron forests and small villages like Kyangjuma and Mong La. After lunch, we descend and then climb gradually to the peaceful village of Dole.

Today is a shorter trek with gradual uphill sections. We pass through beautiful alpine meadows with occasional views of Cho Oyu (8201m), the sixth-highest mountain in the world. Overnight at Machermo.

We climb a ridge for panoramic views of Kangtega and Cho Oyu. Passing several beautiful lakes along the trail, we reach the third Gokyo Lake, nestled in a wide valley next to Ngozumpa Glacier.

Early morning climb to Gokyo Ri offers one of the best panoramic views in the Khumbu region — Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and the Gokyo lakes below. We return for breakfast and continue across the Ngozumpa Glacier to Thagnag.

A challenging yet rewarding day. We start early and ascend steeply to reach Cho La Pass, often snow-covered and requiring caution. From the top, we get excellent views before descending carefully to Dzongla.

After a relaxed morning, we descend to join the main Everest Base Camp trail. We pass the memorials of climbers at Thukla Pass and continue towards the broad Imja Valley to reach Dingboche.

A short but gradual uphill walk through the wide valley. Chhukung is a small settlement surrounded by towering peaks — a great place to prepare for Island Peak.

We rest and acclimatize today. Optional hike to Chhukung Ri (5550m) for excellent views of Lhotse, Island Peak, and Amphu Lapcha pass. Gear checks and training by your climbing guide may also take place.

We follow a steep trail out of Chhukung, crossing moraines and rocky terrain until we reach Island Peak Base Camp. After setting up camp, our climbing guide will give final training on rope techniques and safety.

We begin very early (around 1–2 AM). The climb includes rock scrambling, snow slope ascent, and fixed rope sections. The summit offers 360-degree views of Lhotse, Makalu, Baruntse, and surrounding peaks. After summiting, we descend carefully to base camp for the night.

We descend via the Chhukung valley and retrace our steps down to Pangboche, a village with one of the oldest monasteries in the Khumbu region.

We continue our descent, passing through Tengboche (famous for its monastery) and lush forests. After crossing suspension bridges, we arrive back in Namche.

A long but scenic final day of trekking. We retrace our path along the Dudh Koshi River, passing Phakding before the final climb back to Lukla.

Early morning flight back to Kathmandu. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is free for rest, shopping, or celebration dinner.

Our representative will drop you at the airport for your flight home, carrying memories of a successful Himalayan expedition.
